) BACK UP YOUR DEVICE!!! This procedure will cause a hard-reset so BACK UP everything!
2) hold button 2 and the power button simultaneously and press the reset button. you should now see a screen with "Serial" at the top. Cradle the device and the it should now display "USB"
3) on the host PC, kill activesync (win9x: ctrl+alt+del > select wcescomm and click "End Task", winnt/2k/xp: right click the task bar and select "Task Manager" > click the processes tab, find wcescomm, right click it and select "end process tree")
4) Load MultiTTY. Select "\\.\WCEUSBH001" from the dropdown list (if you dont see this activesync is probably still active). you should now see a white screen. press enter to display the "USB>" prompt
5) type 'h' for a list of commands. NOTE: most of the commands are locked out and dont appear in this 'h' menu. to unlock them you need the device password. im not sure if this is the same for every device but mine was "CPQHAMMER" (to find your device password type "mb 7500 11", which displays the memory dump at location 7500h).
6) if the password was correct the device should return "PASS". now if you type 'h full' it will display the complete list of commands.
7) u sould notice 2 commands: 'd2s' and 's2d'. d2s dumps the rom to cf or SD (for info on how to do this type 'h d2s'). 's2d' copies the data from sd/mmc/cf to rom.
Have fun

Just to help a little bit, I suggest adding at the beginning of skyfox'post:
0) You need to format a 64MB CF Card with a tool like WinHEX (
http://www.x-ways.net/winhex/index-f.html). Edit/Fill disk sectors with 00.
ATTENTION : do not make any mistake in the choice of the drive!
Now, here is a way to copy the backup you made to a file:
2-1) Put your CF Card in a Card reader plugged to your desktop. Do not format it even if your desktop wants to!
2-2) Launch WinHEX and remove the popup window. Tools/disk Tools and then Clone disk
2-3) Source file : Click on button, uncheck "read sectors from image file", and choose Physical disk corresponding to your CF Card.
2-4) Destination file : Click on button, check "Write sectors to an image file", click on OK and choose path and file name.
2-5) Everything checked, click on OK
You have now a file you can store. It contains a backup of your ROM.
Now, here is the procedure to restore this file to a CF Card (it needs to be the same size at least...).
3-1) Launch WinHEX and remove the popup window. Tools/disk Tools and then Clone disk
3-2) Source file : Click on button and then check "Read from image file" , OK, then choose the image file
3-3) Destination disk : Removable medium corresponding to your CF Card.
3-4) Click on OK, start sector = 0, OK and pray
3-5) If everything goes well, you have a CF Card which can be used to restore an iPAQ 2210.
Note: feel free to correct this as english is not my native language.
-----------------------------------------------
- after you filled the SD/CF card with 00 bytes you send the “d2s 0” command
- you write this file to hard disk with winhex “clone disk” option for backup purposes
- you can cut the file to size (after the last HTCE string) if you want
- you write the new language file over the card with winhex “clone disk” option
(however IMO it’s better to open both card and new lang. file in winhex - and after selecting the desired content with Ctrl+A in the new lang. file - then use Ctrl+C to copy and next select card and use Ctrl+B (Edit/Clipboard Data/WRITE) option (but go to offset 0 in this file FIRST with the mouse!! - so winhex will write it from offset 0)
- then (with card in iPAQ) send raw command s2d and after a “checksum OK” msg and a reset - you are done!
well you see, what a difference a zero can make…
but sweet & bitter walk hand in hand: after gave me the English ROM my helping friend disappeared in outer space for good
so have fun & take care
yourmate
ps.: and definitely buy licences for those new language files you use - or do the same as I did: change back to the old language you’ve bought your iPAQ with…
--------------------------
Yes it's possible...
but be careful copy all the rom (use "d2s 0")
and it's OK, now you have to put the compactflash
with the rom into the other iPAQ and enter in the perro
mode (button 2 + power + reset)
if you have an error don't restart your iPAQ
restore the old rom ...
