Charge your battery in the right way
Keeping your Pocket PC charged as much as possible is actually better than draining it all the way down, as what was thought the norm for NiCad Batteries. Most modern Pocket PCs now come with replaceable Li Ion batteries.
A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery.
There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges. The aging of lithium-ion is an issue that is often ignored. Lithium-based batteries have a lifetime of 2-3 years. The clock starts ticking as soon as the battery comes off the manufacturing line.
The capacity loss manifests itself in increased internal resistance caused by oxidation. Eventually, the cell resistance will reach a point where the pack can no longer deliver the stored energy, although the battery may still contain ample charge.
Li Ion Battery Etiquette
If possible, try to avoid frequent full discharges, because this puts an additional strain on the battery. Several partial discharges with frequent recharges are better for lithium-ion than one deep recharge. Recharging a partially charged lithium-ion does not cause harm because there is no memory. (In this respect, lithium-ion differs from nickel-based batteries.) Short battery life in a laptop is mainly caused by heat rather than charge/discharge patterns.
Although memory-free, it is a good rule of thumb to apply a deliberate full discharge once every 30 charges to 're-calibrate'
your battery's fuel gauge reference point. Running down the battery in the equipment does this. If ignored, the information relayed to the fuel gauge will become increasingly less accurate, but your 'true battery life" will not be affected. Try and keep the lithium-ion battery as moderate a temperature range as is possible, avoiding heat and cold extremes. Be sure to avoid leaving your device in a car on a hot summer day or cold winter night. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.
If you are thinking of purchasing a spare lithium-ion battery for later use, be sure to observe the manufacturing date. If you are not going to be using a new battery for quite a while, just hold off on purchasing one. Also you may try and avoid old stock sold at clearance prices, unless you plan to use them as an affordable spare.
There are several third party programs out there that help monitor your battery level. The Battery Monitor Program v 1.2 or above (the current release is version 2,0 ) gives detailed graphing of battery usage. It also displays a meter icon in the lower right with memory bars as well.
Another option is to use PHM Today Meters. It will display your cholce of "Ali battenes and memones", "Batteries Only", "Memones Only", or "Single linę battery and memories". Ali display in your Today menu listing. The cool thing about this is that when you click on an item listed in the Today menu, it brings you to the associated settings screen. There are other programs that do this as well, like Spb Pocket Plus, Battery Pack Pro, DTSysView Pro, and Today "s Infb.
Retractable synch, charge cables and power adapters are a great way to keep your Pocket PC charged at all times either via a USB port, AC outlet
